What is a hospital management system?
A hospital management system (HMS), also called a hospital information system (HIS), is software that runs the daily work of a hospital on one shared database: patient registration, appointments, OPD and IPD billing, pharmacy and store inventory, laboratory and radiology reporting, medical records, payroll and financial accounts.
Because every department writes to the same record, a charge raised in the pharmacy appears on the patient’s bill, a test booked at reception appears in the lab worklist, and the day’s collections flow into accounts without re-entry.
